Venue:   Kingsize Studios, 27 Sackville Street, Grey Lynn, Auckland

Do you dream of being able to tell your own stories? Would you love to make documentary work? As the print world is increasingly challenged by online, and the traditions of journalism are retired, how are you supposed to plan for such a career and earn a living? We are offering a tailored learning experience to suit you and your environment.

Tutor, Abby Verbosky will reference recent developments and trends she is seeing in and around New York & USA.

This course is an introduction to visual communication through still photography and the processes required to deliver publishable material for journalism and documentary. We attempt to discover why some images are remembered while most are not.

Student work is reviewed and critiqued for composition, content, technical excellence, and the ability to communicate the information of the original subject to the viewer. There will also be time devoted to sharing each other’s work, which will help to build visual language, creativity, observational and critical thinking skills. Legalities, ethics, and professional practice will also be covered briefly.

This programme is open to people of all ages & experience. Learning outcomes will be tailored to each individual depending on their knowledge and areas of interest. Suitable for people 18+, including tertiary students, enthusiasts, and anyone wanting to enjoy a fun and intense week absorbed in photography.
